Xiong Shili: A New Confucian Philosophy Based on Learning

——Using “Reading the Essays” as the middle

Abstract:Xiang Shili’s “Reading Instructions” integrates Chinese and Western cultures, and sways Zhang and Song dynasties, inherits traditional learning, takes learning as the foundation of academic practice, returns to the foundation and opens up new things, rebuilds Confucianism’s state, learning and governance, and establishes a new Confucian philosophy system, which directly affects the second generation of new Confucianism such as Tang Junyi, Mou Zongsan, and Xu Yaoguan, and promotes contemporary new Confucianism to reach Cen Ling. In terms of Taoism, he took the Six Books as the root, the Four Books and Filial Piety as the derivation, and mainly developed classical common Taoism, rebuilt Taoism. In terms of academic discipline, he believed that the four subjects of theory, economy, examination, and chapter can be divided into six chapters, mainly six chapters, including the following: Taoism, Buddhism, and Western studies. In terms of governance, he developed six meanings of governance: benevolence is the body, study things for use, integrity is equal and equal, and at any time it is changed into power, and apply the righteous virtue of the root of prosperity. The political and punishment of Taoism are based on gifts. At first, it is man-ruled by people, and ultimately all things have their own place, and finally they are left with the dragons. In terms of realm, he proposed to study hard, yearn for the realm of holy things, and achieve from the bottom of learning.

 

Xiong Shili (1885-1968), originally named Ruizhi, Shengheng, Dingzhong, Zizhen and Yiweng, a young man in Qiyuan, a native of Huangluojia, Hubei Province; a famous modern philosopher and thinker, a master of the founding of the new Confucianism, and a master of the country. He has major foundations in Confucian philosophy, teaching philosophy, and Chinese thinking history. In particular, he has the original contribution to rebuilding the new Confucianism based on learning, and assisting Buddhism to build the ontology of Confucianism and building the new Confucian philosophy on the basis of learning. This article focuses on “Reading the Essays”, and focuses on four aspects: Taoism, learning, governance, and realm. It sorts out the basic thinking and specific content of Xiong Shili based on learning and constructing a new Confucian philosophical system, and teaches the Fang family.

 

1. In terms of Taoism, we can develop classical Taoism and rebuild Taoism

 

Taoism is the source, foundation, body, metaphysical basis and foundation of Chinese historical civilization academic research. Taoism has existed since ancient times and always exists. However, if people do not understand Taoism, Taoism will be obscure and inconspicuous. It is what Confucius said in “Theory” that “the whole country has no way”, which is the “big way” mentioned in “Travels: Gifts Chapters”. Under this situation, society has no focus on value and guidance, the people have no support, their feelings are unreliable, and their souls are inseparable.So, the country is in chaos, the whole country is in chaos, and people are like land. Every time this time, great scholars and holy scholars appear, practicing the Tao, pursuing the Tao, enlightening the Tao, practicing the Tao, and rebuilding the Tao.

 

The era where Xiong Shili was located was an era when Chinese social uneasy and Chinese civilization suffered an unprecedented change. He faced many problems in the era, and the Taoist system was the most fundamental problem. He said: “There is a study of the Qing Dynasty for 200 years, but it is confined to the consideration of the dryness. It is used in the entire body of the Six Paths without any loss. Its size is steep, but its understanding is not grand. Its atmosphere is floating and its power is regressing. When it comes to the Qing Dynasty, the internal situation is in conflict. Although the students of the junior high school have been excited and thoughts change, those who know it have already felt that it is not the growth of the Spring Festival, and will be thorough and diligent. In addition to learning the ultimate Taoist sect, they want to obtain one or two great scholars who are broad, generous, honest and powerful, and truly knowledgeable, to guide and lead to a new society. , and to determine the direction, so that those who are blind are blind and do not get the problem of the pond in the middle of the night. …After learning is declining, the key to the predecessors’ self-made things is not visible. Therefore, those who are born in the sea have learned the lack of power and the lack of self-satisfaction of self-satisfaction. When the country’s politics and society are in decline, and their emotions are intensified, they are talking about all the destruction. The first ones who are attacked are the disciples and Confucius. The new civilized sports thought with Beijing’s major learning as the gate was summoned to defeat Kongjiadian. The sixth anniversary had been deserted for a long time, but now it is re-creating again. When he was young, he did not take the Taoist sect of the Song and Ming wise scholars as the times changed, and later he became more and more aware of the main nature and serious meaning of Taoism, and realized that rebuilding Taoism was the urgent task of China.

How to rebuild it? Xiong Shili took “Six Books” as the root, “Four Books” and “Filial Piety” as the derivation, and mainly developed classical common Taoism to rebuild Taoism. “Six Books” is a collection of ancient historical and civilized classics that Confucius could see in his era, and inherited his previous ChineseNational civilization, so the Six Paths is the source of Chinese civilization. “Six Books” are the three-in-one body of classic text, sage personality and Taoism. To understand the Tao, one must study classics and their annotations and commentaries from generation to generation, and develop in the new era and form a new Confucian thought.

 

He first explained the “年” in “The Six Paths” and said: “年 is the common way. The common way is to cover the six ways, understand the ancient and modern times, and to be unjust without time, and to be easy without earth. There is the five ways of constant, so it is called “Five Pu”. “Kong Ruzi·宋”: “The Scriptures are the constant, and they can always be regarded as Scriptures.” Huan Zhisheng’s “New Commentary”: “The Scriptures are the regular scriptures.” Volume 2 of “Korean Poetry Outer Edition”: “The Scriptures are the regular scriptures, and the Scriptures of Changes.” It can be seen that modern Confucian classics have compiled “Scriptures” as constant and constant Taoism. Xiong Shili further deepened and expanded the connotation of the word “王” based on the literary training of his predecessors, emphasized the way of constant, gave birth to six characters, transcending time and space, without any change, and comprehending all principles, and learning group learning.
